For dinner on Friday night we drove into downtown San Antonio to eat at John Besh’s Luke. It’s German and French food with a New Orleans spin to it.

Our appetizers included pate served with crusty bread, watermelon pickles, caramelized onions and pickles. This was my first time trying pate and of course, nobody told me what it was till after the fact. Not really a fan but it wasn’t horrible. We also ordered some of their oysters, which was pretty good as well.

For my meal I went with their "croque monsieur" which is pretty much a fancy grilled ham and cheese sandwich. It was humungous, like literally bigger or as big as my face. I didn’t test that out, so I wouldn’t be able to tell you for certain. I also ordered an Abita Strawberry beer because I like fruity beers haha. 

Dessert time, we all shared “Brendan’s bread pudding” that was topped with hot buttered pecan sauce and vanilla bean ice cream. I thought it was pretty good, but I’ve had better bread pudding elsewhere, so I’m a little picky when it comes to bread pudding. 

Overall, everything was good. I tried a muscle for the first time in my life and we quickly discovered that I don’t like them very much. The only other thing I’d complain about is that it’s super loud in there. They have nothing to tunnel out all the sounds and loud noises going on, so every time our waiter tried talking to us, we’d have to ask him to repeat or try leaning in closer. The waiting staff also isn’t that great either, but I went home satisfied food-wise.
